Asus Eee PC 1000he Review
The Asus Eee PC 1000he is a good looking and fairly powerful, albeit pricey netbook. It is of course part of the new premium netbooks that have begun to flood the market targetting an audience looking for ‘better than standard’ netbooks. It has a glossy finish throughout the body, and has a solid resilient feel to it. Above the keyboard there is a thin chrome strip that has a few buttons (LCD backlight, change screen resolutions, two keys that are user defined and a power button) and the touchpad also has a silver bordered effect. The screen has a matted effect, which although not as ’showy’ as a glossy screen, it does make it easier to see in varying light conditions.
The keyboard has a chiclet design, with large spaces between keys and this makes typing for a longer period of time quite comfortable. The keyboard is also at 92% size, which is quite standard in most netbooks. Beneath the keyboard is quite a responsive touchpad, that supports multi-gestire input (page scrolling, zooming etc.).
A clever feature of the 1000he Asus is the ability to switch between CPU modes, to flex the speed depending on the type of usage and battery conservation needed. This is called Super Hybrid Engine (spooky) and the options are:
Super Performance Mode: Higher FSB of 700MHz, resulting in a CPU speed between 1.05GHz and 1.75GHz.
High Performance Mode: Stock FSB of 667MHz, resulting in a CPU speed between 1GHz and 1.66GHz.
Power Saving Mode: Lower FSB of 500MHz, resulting in a CPU speed between 750MHz and 1.25GHz.
Auto: Switches between Power Saving Mode when running on battery and High Performance Mode when on the AC adapter.
The EeePC 1000 he has good internet connection, and has both wifi and bluetooth. Streaming video is also seemless.
Overall the Asus Eee PC 1000he is a top notch netbook. As a few reviewers have stated, the netbook might not be revolutionary, but what it does it does very well. In addition the battery is awesome, and so this would be a great netbook for travel.
