Lenovo IdeaPad S10e Review

The Lenovo IdeaPad S10e is the first netbook made by the same company that brought us the ThinkPad (which they bought off IBM). Staying away from the tiny netbooks (<10 inches) the Lenovo IdeaPad S10e has a 10 inch screen. The keyboard is a little cramped, and the touchpad a little small, which is surprising given the fact that they have gone for the larger screen. That being said, the keyboard didnt pose too much of an issue to us, but those with large hands/fingers might have an issue. A strange feauture is the half-height Enter key, which doesnt really make much sense.
The actual aesthetics are quite plain and simple, and in today’s market with aesthetics playing such a large role, we would have expected Lenova to put more effort in. You can however choose between a the following colours: black, white ane red (maroon). All colours are matted, which we prefer as it doesnt pick up the dust and finger prints like the shiny covers do.

Connecting with the Lenovo IdeaPad S10e is made possible with bluetooth, 11 b/g wifi and Fast Ethernet.
The main selling point of the Lenovo IdeaPad S10e is a feature that Lenovo call Quick Start. This is meanto to allow you to have the Lenovo IdeaPad S10e up and running within a few seconds. However it does not really function that well, and most systems took a good 30-40 seconds to boot up and be ready to go.

Conclusion: The Lenovo IdeaPad S10e is on of those Netbooks that ‘could’ have been great. It is an ok start for Lenovo, but, as a late comer into the Netbook market, they should have blown us away with their entrant. Instead we’re left thinking that for a little more moey we could get so much more. Personally we would rather get the Samsung NC10.
