MSI Wind U123 Review
The MSI U123 Netbook is one of the newer netbooks from MSI. It is actually part of a range of netbooks in the U123 Series that include the MSI U123H and the MSI U123T. The U123 is a 10 inch netbook that will easily fit into an A4-sized bag, and has some really cool colours (albeit with strange names) like pearl white, dolphin grey, midnight blue and silver red.
The MSI netbook is fitted with ‘LED power-saving backlight technology’ that gives greater brightness to colours, as well as using less energy. It is a good looking netbook with a slightly glossy cover (or as we call it, the finger print magnet), and a good sized keyboard (with 17.5mm space between the keys) and NavPad. MSI have also put the mouse buttons beneath the NavPad, which is great in keeping with what we all know.
The Wind U123 weighs just 1kg and is 33mm thin, so you truly can take this anywhere you go, and with 160GB of memory there is plenty of space for your music, data and pictures.
Internet connection is also excellent with built-in 3G HSDPA (which is only available in the U123H version) and bluetooth. Another very clever feature is that the Wind U123T has an integrated TV Tuner so you can watch and record TV right off the netbook. You just need to connect the antenna and you’re good to go.
One of the coolest technologies, which is exclusive to MSI, is EasyFace, Face Identification technology. This serves two functions. Firstly, it enables you to have a secure log on using facial recognition technology. Secondly it save battery and improves security by either auto-locking the screen or switching off the netbook if the users face has been away from it for a certain period of time - this prevents others using the netbook while you are away from it.
Overall the MSI U123 Series of netbooks look likely to be very popular. They are compact, look great and have excellent functionality.
