What is a Netbook
Netbooks are a fairly recent addition (2007/8) to the personal computer market. As such people are still trying to define exactly what it is that they are. Is a netbook a smaller laptop, and if so how small does it need to be to be a netbook? Is 12 inches too big, is a 14inch laptop, actually a netbook?
Does it have something to do with the price, so that a netbook is just a very cheap laptop. But how cheap? Is a £400 netbook actually a laptop?
Maybe it’s processing power, as Netbooks typically have much less than a typical laptop would have.
The thing is, it is actually all these things that make a netbook, well…a netbook. A netbook is basically a mini-laptop that has been designed so that you can access the internet and browse, as well as fulfill a few basic document processing functions. Most of us never use the true power of our expensive laptops, and just want to be able to surf the net, talk to our family and friends and perform a few simple tasks. Netbooks have also been very popular with travellers (business poeple and backpackers) for the tiny size and built-in wifi.
