Samsung make SSD for netbooks

Samsung have just announced that they have made SSD’s (solid-state-drives) specifically for netbooks. What would an SSD for a netbook be like, well it would be smaller and use less energy, which is precisely what Samsung’s new SSD is.

They are up to 80% smaller that the typical SSD’s and weigh roughly 8 grams compared to the standard of 80 grams (thats 10% of the weight for those that like percentages). This means that they will take up even less room in a netbook and barely contribute at all to the weight.

The Samsung mini-SSD’s also consume much less energy, consuming 0.3 watts compared to the 1.1 watts of the standard SSD’s. This means that the battery on your netbook will last even longer, perhaps only 30 minutes longer, but it’s a start.
